SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING
On the Internet, it’s possible to benefit from the high rankings some giant sites get, by associating yourself with those sites. The effects of this on the performance of your website can be phenomenal.
‘Content Sharing Sites’ sites – also called Web 2.0 sites – like YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Twitter etc. grow quickly because users create content for them every day, every hour, and on some of the bigger sites every minute. Millions of visitors arrive at these sites every month.
As a result of all that activity, Google and the other search engines pay a lot of attention to these sights, rank them highly, and keep a close eye who is frequently mentioned or referred to by them. They are true internet giants – and you can stand on their shoulders and make some giant improvements to your website, too!
There are also highly ranked sites for submitting articles to, like Hubpages.com, StumbleUpon.com, Propeller.com and others. Some sites are more specialized and offer mainly document uploads, while others include video, audio and pictures in their various formats.
Creating Links from Web 2.0 sites, including submitting articles to them, has three main benefits:
- You increase the page rank of your site through links: The links from these web 2.0 sites will send ‘ranking juice’ to your own site. The more web 2.0 links you get, the more ‘ranking juice’ your site will receive. providing these links are ‘follow’ links. As a result your listing positions on the search engines is likely to improve.
- Your content gets found and recognized fast by the search engines: When you link from an article on such a web 2.0 site back to content on your own site, this content will get found and indexed faster and therefore can appear faster on Google.
- Your website gets more direct Traffic: These web 2.0 sites are one of the best places to upload unique variations of your articles, since when your articles become popular, countless searchers pick them up, click through to your website and you get large amounts of direct and interested traffic to your site or blog.
Therefore, social media sites have an enormous influence on how a site is ranked and in which position it is listed on the search engine results pages. But be aware that Google gets suspicious if you have a lot of links from web 2.0 sites only, it deems this unnatural link building. Therefore, you need links from a other sites, not only web 2.0 sites, as well.
